PEER CHRISTENSEN
Working exclusively in oils, Christensen employs the classical technique, a method of painting which was learned through study with painter Anthony Thorn in Victoria, B.C. This technique involves building up a painting in successive opaque and transparent layers of pigments thinned with an oil medium.
“I find this to be the ideal way to achieve a sense of luminosity in my work.” say Christensen. “My inspiration comes primarily from the local landscape; rural and industrial, I am also drawn to the study of the effects of light which I incorporate into floral still-life and atmospheric night paintings.”
Peer Christensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1953 and immigrated to Canada in 1959. He has lived in Peterborough, Ontario, since 1985. Shortly after moving to Peterborough, Christensen and his wife Lori opened the Williamson House Gallery, an exhibition space devoted to showing the works of contemporary Canadian artists.
