The Structural restoration is the type of treatment used in Museums and other Institutions throughout the world. It is suitable for items that will be used once again, such as dinner plates, vases, cups and saucers etc. The objects are never overpainted or airbrushed but rather filled and retouched locally. It is the more ethical approach from a conservation point of view and it could withstand daily use. Though this type of restoration is less costly than the cosmetic option, we still charge by the amount of pieces that have to be reattached and the cost often exceeds the value of the object.
The cost varies from item to item and from one damage to another and sometimes so do the final restoration results. Most porcelain objects, if they have not been repaired before, have very satisfactory results. Some soft paste ceramics, especially white in colour, have limitations and the restoration is more obvious.
Our minimum charge for reattaching 2 pieces is $45.00 plus the applicable taxes of 13%.. The above price is for reattaching only and does not include fills or any retouching. The losses that require fills and retouching would need to be viewed by us in order to determine costs. You may send us jpegs by email and we will try to provide you with an estimate.
